Aleutian Ballad: Ready for Adventure Tours
Aleutian Ballad: Working Boat
The F/V Aleutian Ballad is owned by David Lethin and captained by Jerry "Corky" Tilley. She is a 107' long welded steel crabber/tender. The F/V Aleutian Ballad was featured on season 2 of the Discovery Channels Deadliest Catch series.
At the Ship Yard
The following are pictures from the F/V Aleutian Ballad's renovation. The boat is being renovated for the tours will be giving out on the Bering Sea.
Breathtaking Scenery
Alaska has some of the most beautiful nature scenery. From the deck of the Aleutian Ballad we've tried to capture some of her beauty for you here. Hopefully it will give you an idea of the wonderful things you'll see on your tour with us.
Dungeness
The Dungeness crab is a species that inhabits water bottoms from Alaska to California. They measure as much as 25cm (10in) in some areas, but typically are under 20 cm (8 inches). They are a popular delicacy, and are the most commercially important crab in the Pacific Northwest and as far south as California. They are named after Dungeness, Washington, a town now known as Old Town, Washington.
King Crab
The Red King Crab is the most coveted commercially sold king crab. It is very large, sometimes reaching a carapace width of 11 inches (28 cm) and a leg span of 6 feet (1.8m). It is most commonly caught in the Bering Sea and Norton Sound, AK. Red King Crab get its name from the color it turns when it is cooked rather than its actual color which tends to be more burgandy.
Long Line Fishery
Long-line fishing is a commercial fishing technique that uses hundreds or even thousands of baited hooks hanging from a single line.
Opilio Fishery
C. opilio is a species referred to as snow crab. Snow crab are caught as far north as the Arctic Ocean, from Newfoundland to Greenland in the Atlantic Ocean, and across the Pacific Ocean, including the Sea of Japan, the Bering Sea, the Gulf of Alaska, and even as far south as California.

Sea Life
There are many sea creatures that inhabit Alaska's waters. We were able to capture a few for you on film. Perhaps on your tour you will have the chance to see the others including the Steller Sea Lion, Sea Otters, Harbor Seals, Dall Porpoises, Whales, Walruses, Giant Pacific Octopus as well as a number of fish.
Sea Traffic
Some may think that it gets lonely out on the water. But as you can see the F/V Aleutian Ballad has neighbors passing all around her, all bound for waters around the globe.
Stone Cold - Freezing spray
As you will see, the weather can get pretty harsh. There are large swells, like the one that turned the F/V Aleutian Ballad on her side on season 2 of the Discovery Channels Deadliest Catch, and freezing rain. However, on the tour with the F/V Aleutian Ballad, our guests will be in an enclosed and heated seating area, and we will be fishing in much calmer waters.
